The visionary organization
The 21st century organization leader is a visionary with the ability to inspire and motivate. A motivated workforce is highly productive. At the beginning of the 20th century, leadership was based on fear which limited the potential capabilities of the organization. The development of the production line produced high profit margins removing the need for quality leadership. Fear can get the job done for a limited time or until competitors with quality leadership puts them out of business. Competitiveness forced quality leadership. Today’s efficiency is based on inventing new ways to motivate people to achieve a task. The highly competitive environment with thin profit margins is forcing this trend. The organization that can produce the same results at less cost is the winner.
The winners are led by leaders with a vision that makes clear what he wants to achieve. With a clear vision, people associated with the organization help support its objectives. They want to associate with leaders that inspire and motivate, because they radiate adventure. This inspires support from a variety of sources, more impotently, employees, customers, and donated resources.
The vision is built on achievement or service, not greed. Money, power, and influence are rewards of achievement, not goals. It is a magnet attracting like minded people, united behind a common goal in and out of the organization.
The highly motivated work environment is created with employee training and wealth for the organization and themselves. They are efficient because everyone views solutions and problems from different perspectives. When sharing opinions with others, possibilities grow producing quality results. Inspired employees will determine the speed and strength of the organizations’ growth. They have an active part of achieving its goals.
There are leaders seeking support and there are people searching for opportunity. This leads to people being at the right time and right place for mutual benefit. Many of these meetings are not accidental; they are drawn together by intuitive forces. This extremely powerful force cannot be controlled or relied on, but when in action helps avoid or overcome many barriers. Intuitive forces do not work where a leader wants absolute control, because there is no benefit to a second party.
Employees with a personal vision get the attention of leaders and offered opportunity. Leaders want to associate with people that inspire and motivate too, even if it is with subordinates.
Under leadership that wants absolute control, quality visionaries are driven out of the organization, because they are a threat to authority. Employees’ goals are quitting time and paydays.
The visionary statement
A vision statement is a means of communicating a vision to others. It sets a clear, focused, desirable direction that will take an organization to some specific destination. It does not address details, but is to be used as a guide for decision making. People are motivated when they have a clear understanding of the purpose and meaning of a task or activity.
