Panama Canal Photos - 1963 to 1988

Above photo is of Gatun Locks looking north. The new third locks will be in the upper right corner of the photo.

In 1963 I was hired as machinist at Miraflores Locks. One of the many duties was to guide ships through the locks using the 1914 towing locomotives. They were replaced with more powerful ones two years later.

Photos taken during the 50th anniversary of the opening of the Panama Canal. The first one was taken during a heavy downpour. The second and third one is where I am at the controls of the 1914 era locomotive.
